Brutal Hordechief 3B
Creature – Orc Warrior
Whenever a creature you control attacks, defending player loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.
3(r/w)(r/w): Creatures your opponents control block this turn if able and you choose how those creatures block.
Remember Hellrider? He’s back, kinda. Also better. Like way better. Brutal Hordechief doesn’t have haste but that doesn’t matter. You didn’t always attack with Hellrider either. Plus, it’s life loss instead of damage so damage prevention can’t stop it. And then you gain life. Turn four, you can realistically drop Brutal Hordechief, attack with 3-4 creatures, gain life, and set up a Stoke the Flames or Lightning Strike win on turn five.
Flamewake Phoenix 1RR
Creature – Phoenix
Flamewake Phoenix attacks each turn if able.
Ferocious – At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you control a creature with power 4 or greater, you may pay R. If you do, return Flamewake Phoenix from your graveyard to the battlefield.
And then Chandra’s Phoenix came back from it’s eternal slumber better than ever. Chandra’s Phoenix was a staple in RDW decks every time it was in Standard and Flamewake Phoenix will be the same and then some. Because of Brutal Hordechief, Flamewake Phoenix, and Kalogann, I’m already brewing RB beats for Standard.
But Standard red aggro variants don’t have good creatures with four power. That’s fine. Titan’s Strength, Firedrinker Satyr, and Boon of Erebos can get you there. Boon of erebos on your Monastery Swiftspear, Bring back at least one Phoenix, bashbashbash. Titan’s Strength any of your creatures, get back Phoenixes. Double pump Firedrainker Satyr if you’re in that late of game.
